More what does depression feel like? – with The Sims (video)

Clinical depression is a lot more complicated than we used to think it was, and the symptoms can vary widely from person to person. The standard list of depression symptoms such as sadness, lack of sleep or loss of interest in things you used to enjoy just doesn’t cover it.

We went over some of the non-standard depression symptoms in a previous video, and have some more to share in the hopes that it will help you recognize depression in yourself or someone else.

Transcript:

You feel completely apathetic. You have no interest in anything and you just don’t care about anything.

Or you might care too much. A sad or tragic story that you hear or read about on the news that would be only mildly and momentarily depressing to someone else brings you down completely.

You could feel a sense of unreality, like you’re in a dream.

You have pain in your head. It’s hard to describe – it’s not like a headache. It seems to be everywhere inside your head.

In your perception of reality, every day is rainy.

You feel like you’re in the dark – no matter how dark or light it really is.

Or it seems like you’re always in a blanket of fog.

You might feel like you’re in a sensory deprivation tank, with all your senses muffled.

Your day, and your life, seem to be passing in a blur.

You feel guilty because of what the depression is doing to your friends, family, co-workers – or you feel guilty over being momentarily happy – or you feel guilty for no particular reason.

You feel disconnected from reality.

You might feel like you’re just acting a role in your life, not actually living it.

We hope that talking about some of these less frequently discussed symptoms of depression has been helpful. Please subscribe if you want to see more videos about depression, and please consider commenting below to share your own depression symptoms.
