The shootings and lock-downs at American colleges and universities this year have raised serious questions about how institutions ensure the well-being of their faculty, staff and students. Beyond the headlines, however, a pressing issue is being overlooked: The number of college students suffering from mental illness is rapidly rising. This trend clearly affects health and security on campus. But the silence surrounding it is not surprising.
